Packing Light for 8 Days: The Navaro Carry-On Formula
Every kilo you don't pack is freedom you gain. Here's the exact system our travellers use to do 8 days across multiple climates with a single carry-on bag.
The number one thing our most experienced travellers have in common is not a particular destination or a travel style. It's a carry-on bag. Every one of them, without exception, has learned to travel with less and every one of them says it changed how they travel.
Why carry-on only matters
Checked luggage adds friction to every transition. You wait at carousels. You worry about loss. You can't move quickly. On a trip with multiple locations which most Navaro itineraries involve checked bags slow everything down and add stress to moments that should be effortless.
More importantly: a heavy bag changes your psychology. When moving costs effort, you move less. You stay somewhere because leaving feels like work. Carry-on travel makes you lighter in every sense.
The formula: 1-2-3-4
- ✦1 pair of shoes (worn, not packed)
- ✦2 bottoms (one casual, one smart-casual)
- ✦3 tops (mix of t-shirts and a lightweight button-down)
- ✦4 sets of underwear and socks
That sounds impossibly minimal. It works because of laundry. Every destination we operate in has laundry services usually same-day, always inexpensive. Build one laundry day into your trip mentally and the formula clicks.
The non-negotiables
- ✦A lightweight down jacket or packable layer nothing is heavier than being cold
- ✦Universal plug adaptor
- ✦Decanted toiletries in 100ml containers
- ✦A silk sleep liner if you run hot (replaces bulky sleepwear)
- ✦One smart outfit that doubles as your travel outfit
What to leave behind
Multiple pairs of shoes. "Just in case" outfits. Full-size toiletries. Books (use a Kindle or phone). Towels every Navaro property provides them. Anything you haven't worn in the last two weeks at home.
The right bag
We recommend a 40-litre backpack or a wheeled bag under 55cm height. The backpack wins for multi-city trips with cobblestones, stairs and uneven terrain which describes most of our itineraries. Look for one with a clamshell opening (it packs like a suitcase, carries like a bag).
